Debut of 'Artística' Big Band:
A new musical adventure

On Sunday, June 4th, a significant day in the world of music unfolded in Buñol when the "Artística" Big Band made its long-awaited debut at the Montecarlo Theater. This exciting journey began with the support of the acclaimed "En clau de Jazz Band," making this day a memorable musical event.

Under the musical direction of José Antonio Tello Masmano, a musician with a rich history in the jazz world and a founding member of the Jazz Orchestra of the Central Theater of Sevilla, the "Artística" Big Band brought back a jazz orchestra format that had been absent since the 1990s when Manuel Jesús Godoy Mesas led the ensemble.

Creative Environment

The "Artística" Big Band is comprised of young musicians from the Symphonic Band, providing them with the opportunity to explore a new musical language and grow as performers. Additionally, they receive support and guidance from experienced musicians, such as José Luis Ramón Criado and José Andrés González leading the wind sections, along with the talents of musicians like drummer Pancho Montañez, guitarist Jorge Riera, and bassist Javi Escamilla.

The audience had a sneak peek of this exciting experience during the opening ceremony of the XVI Buñol Trade Fair on May 12th. However, it was at the Montecarlo Theater where the "Artística" Big Band made its official debut.

A Grand Concert

The concert kicked off with power and emotion as they were joined by the veteran "En clau de Jazz Band," which boasts 15 years of history and is currently led by Kako Rubio, a trombonist and euphonist with a remarkable musical career. This band has had the honor of accompanying renowned musicians such as Toni Belenguer, Soledad Giménez, Lluís Llario, and Paul Evans, and they have taken their music beyond Spanish borders, reaching all the way to Berlin. With two recordings under the direction of Ricardo Belda, one of its founders, "En clau de Jazz Band" is a group that has left an indelible mark on the world of jazz.

"Artística" Big Band, alongside "En clau de Jazz Band," delivered an exhilarating concert that marked the beginning of a new era in Buñol's music scene. The initiative for this band came from the Board of Directors of "La Artística," led by its President Paco Blasco, with the aim of providing training and opportunities to young talents in a musical language different from other musical groups.
