Massachusetts Youth Wind Ensemble Concert

The Massachusetts Youth Wind Ensemble (MYWE) of the New England Conservatory is open to woodwind, brass, percussion, harp, double bass, and piano musicians in the upper age of high school (ages 14 to 18).

MYWE has performed at the National Band Festival at Carnegie Hall, toured Central Europe with performances in Budapest, Vienna, and Prague, and participated as part of Winds Across the Century, a national symposium on winds held at the New England Conservatory of Music.

MYWE has also shared the stage with the Metropolitan Winds and the Boston College Wind Ensemble at the Metropolitan Winds Music Festival, performed at the All Eastern National Association for Music Education Conference in Providence, Rhode Island, and toured Italy, giving concerts in Florence, Naples, Rome, and Vatican City, where they played for Pope John Paul II.

MYWE has also performed in England, Wales, and Scotland on their summer tour of 2006, in Spain and Portugal in 2008, in Germany and Austria in 2010, in Poland in 2012, in Ireland in 2014, in the Czech Republic in 2016, and most recently, in France in February 2020. The Massachusetts Youth Wind Ensemble tour is designed to encompass a wide range of objectives.

Its primary goal is to provide exceptional musical performances that entertain audiences and offer our talented musicians opportunities for growth and refinement. In addition to the musical aspect, the tour is an educational journey, presenting opportunities to foster ongoing learning. While dedication to music is paramount, cultural exploration is also prioritized by incorporating visits to historical and cultural sites. Moreover, the tour emphasizes the importance of camaraderie and teamwork, offering numerous occasions for ensemble members to bond during shared meals and leisure activities. Through this comprehensive approach, the Massachusetts Youth Wind Ensemble tour aims to create a holistic and memorable experience for all participants.
