Since the year 2019, he is the Artistic Director of the Classical Music Cycle Crea Escena of Vila-real, his hometown.
Since season 2023/24 he is the Musical Director of Youth Orchestra of Gran Canaria, Associate Director of Chorus of the Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria.
Programmer and Coordinator of School and Family Concerts of the Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria, and Assistant Conductor of Karel Mark Chichon (Music and Artistic Director of the Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria).
Professional career
- Josep Gil studied at the Estonian Music and Theatre Academy (Tallinn), where he completed a Master’s Degree in Orchestral Conducting and a Master’s Degree in Choral Conducting with Professor Toomas Kapten.
- He has also assisted maestros such as Gustavo Dudamel, James Gaffigan, Gustavo Gimeno or Daniel Oren. As an opera conductor, his debut in 2021 at El Gran Teatre del Liceu de Barcelona with “Lucia di Lammermoor”, by Donizetti, stands out. In the 2021/22 season, he made his debut in the German theatre at the Komische Oper Berlin, with the opera “Orphée aux Enfers”, by J. Offenbach.
- He has also conducted operas such as Donizetti's “l'Elisir d'Amore”, Mozart's “Così Fan Tutte” and “Le Nozze di Figaro” and Gerónimo Giménez's zarzuela “El Barbero de Sevilla”.
- His operatic repertoire has more than 25 titles, and in 2024 he will be a guest conductor at the Komische Oper Berlin with the opera “Hänsel und Gretel”.
- In the field of oratorios, Josep has conducted Mozart's “Requiem” and “Coronation Mass”, Beethoven's “Mass in C Major”, Rossini's “Stabat Mater” and Puccini's “Messa di Gloria”.
In the symphonic genre, some of his significant participations as a guest conductor were with the Simfònica del Vallés at the Palau de la Música Catalana and with the Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria at the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus, Orchestra of the Generalitat Valenciana at the Palau de Les Arts Reina Sofía, the Spanish National Orchestra at the Auditorio Nacional and the Symphony Orchestra Radio Television Española at the Teatro Monumental de Madrid.
